Register Now for Upcoming Oral History Workshop

The Austin History Center and KLRU, Austin PBS, are hosting a targeted oral history workshop to increase the number of personal stories collected from local WWII veterans. We are collecting suggestions from the AHCA membership and others on our email list for two items:

Interviewees: Austin and Travis County WWII Veterans

First, we need names and contact information for Austin and Travis County WWII veterans you may know who would enjoy being interviewed. We are developing this list now. We are hoping to gather at least ten names. If you know of a name to suggest, please gather the contact information and submit it to Sue Soy at the Austin History Center by email: Sue.soy at ci.austin.tx.us

Interviewers

Second, the project is seeking a small number of individuals for oral history training to conduct the veteran interviews. Here are the details of the training:

The workshop will be small – only 20 persons. The AHC needs to identify five members from the AHCA who would attend the free oral history workshop on Saturday, September 8, 10 am – 1 pm, at the Austin History Center in the Reception Room. Each workshop participant will receive intensive training from a representative of the Library of Congress-Veterans History Project on the strategies to conduct veteran interviews, prepare documentation for submission, and how to use the audio equipment that will be available for loan.

Each participant must be willing to commit to gather at least two interviews from a WWII veteran by November 30. Both KLRU and the AHC are hearing from numerous vets with stories to tell, so our plan is to match trained participant with veteran, as needed.

If you wish to register or know someone who would, it’s first come, first serve. To register, please email kquebe at klru.org to register as soon as possible. She will confirm your registration. We hope you will be interested in participating or can pass this on to someone you know you might be interested in assisting with this project.
